Help in a crisis
Samaritans
Call free on 116 123 or email jo@samaritans.org (emails can take up to 24 hours to be answered). You can also go into a local office and speak to someone face to face https://www.samaritans.org/branches or write a letter to Freepost RSRB-KKBY-CYJK, PO Box 9090, STIRLING, FK8 2SA. The Samaritans’ branches are closed due to Covid 19 but you can still phone, email or write.
Access Mental Health
NHS service offering a 24 hour helpline and face-to-face support at the Retreat in Bournemouth and Dorchester and Community Front Rooms in Bridport, Shaftesbury and Wareham for anyone experiencing mental distress. (Face to face support not currently available due to Covid-19 but you can still use the 24 hour helpline on 0300 123 5440).

Saneline
Mental health helpline offering emotional support 0300 304 7000 between 4.30pm and 10.30pm every day of the year. Not currently available due to Covid-19 but there are online sources of support on their website.

CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably)
CALM works to prevent male suicide. Their helpline is available to all people on 0800 58 58 58 from 5pm – midnight. There’s also a webchat facility on their website. (Still open during the lockdown).

Advocacy
Access Dorset – Crisis Advocacy Service
Provides advocacy and case work support to disabled people facing extreme financial/housing hardship. Contact them to make a referral.

Dorset Advocacy
Offers various advocacy services:
- Care Act and general advocacy for people receiving services from Dorset and BCP Councils.
- Advocacy for carers in the BCP Council area.
- Support for people getting Direct Payments from Dorset Council.
- Appropriate Adults for vulnerable adults who have been arrested.

Dorset Mental Health Forum Advocacy Service

Autscape
Autscape is a conference with a difference. Rather than talking to a primarily non-autistic audience about autism, this conference is specifically by and for autistic people. Steps 2 Wellbeing
The Steps 2 Wellbeing Service is a free, confidential, NHS service for to people aged 18+ for people registered at either a Dorset or Southampton GP surgery. You can self-refer online or your GP can refer you. Offers counselling and cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT). During the Covid-19 crisis they are offering telephone and videolink assessment and support but this may be limited due to staff availability.
