The DAAS Group offers support and information for adults with Autism including Asperger’s Syndrome and their carers, families, friends and supporters in the Dorset area as well as working to raise awareness and increase understanding of Autism and Asperger’s
We are a community organisation run by volunteers. Around 70% of our committee is on the autistic spectrum.
Here is what we do:
Information and mutual support
We hold regular monthly meetings in two locations –
These meetings consist of informative talks and discussions relating to Asperger’s Syndrome and autism. They also provide an opportunity for people to share their experiences and to offer support and help to each other.
We also have a drop-in twice a month at Rossmore Library in Poole. This is more informal than our main meetings.
Our meetings are currently closed due to the coronavirus pandemic however we are meeting weekly online, through the Chat Room page of our website.
Influencing policy
We are actively involved with local Social Services and the NHS in shaping and developing the services needed by people with Asperger’s Syndrome and in highlighting gaps in service provision.
We take part in several different local consultative meetings to give practical, lived-experience input to the development of strategies and services that aim to help people with Asperger’s Syndrome to live independent and fulfilling lives and that will sustain and support their families and carers.
Awareness Raising
We also work to raise awareness of the condition in the local community and to champion the positive values, achievements and potential of people with the condition.
